pDEKALB — The cause of a fire at the Canton Corning plant early Sunday morning that resulted in three employees being hospitalized at local hospitals is still being investigated./pp“The whole incident is under investigation by Corning, National Grid and First Responders,” said Joseph Dunning, a Corning spokesman. /ppMr. Dunning said the employees suffered minor injures./ppRensselaer Falls Fire Chief Dallas Denny said the fire took place about 6:30 a.m. after their was a power outage at the plant./pp“They (injured employees) went in to shut the furnace down,” Mr. Denny said./ppHe said the fire was contained by Corning’s own fire brigade before Renssselaer Falls firefighters arrived to assist. Firefighters from Richville and DeKalb were on standby as well as the Ogdensburg hazmat team and St. Lawrence County fire coordinators./ppThe injured were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Claxton-Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. The injuries were said to be burns./p
