Council approves transaction for Boyd Street building

pWATERTOWN — The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the sale of a tax sale certificate for an apartment building at 603 Boyd St. to an Oswego County real estate developer./ppThe developer, Meira Moet Shapiro, will pay about $6,000 for the tax sale certificate to acquire the three-family residence./ppThe city’s code enforcement office had some reservations about the transaction because it doesn’t have any parking and it’s been a troublesome property./ppBut Ms. Shapiro owns a neighboring apartment building at 137-139 William St. that she plans to use for parking for the Boyd Street building./ppLast week, the developer stormed out of a council meeting after she became upset that council members were poised to oppose the transaction for Boyd Street./ppMeanwhile, she remains interested in acquiring the vacant, deteriorating apartment building at Cooper and West Lynde streets. /ppSome city officials opposed her proposal, citing the condition of the building at 504 Cooper St. and the lack of parking on site. /p
